Learn the Commercial Foundations of Green Hydrogen Projects

Green Hydrogen is emerging as one of the most important technologies in the global energy transition. While considerable attention is given to electrolyzers, renewable energy generation, and hydrogen production technologies, understanding the commercial and economic fundamentals behind Green Hydrogen projects is equally important.

This course has been designed to provide a clear and practical introduction to the key economic and commercial concepts that drive Green Hydrogen project development.

Through five focused lectures, participants will gain an understanding of the major factors that influence hydrogen production costs, renewable power procurement strategies, project configuration choices, and the commercial relationships that support project financing and long-term operation.

The course begins with an introduction to Green Hydrogen Economics, explaining the major cost drivers associated with hydrogen production and the factors that influence project viability.

Next, students will learn about the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH), one of the most widely used metrics for evaluating and comparing hydrogen production projects. The lecture explains the importance of LCOH and the key parameters that affect hydrogen production costs.

The course then explores the evolution of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and their role in renewable energy procurement. Since electricity represents the largest operating cost component for most Green Hydrogen facilities, understanding the history and purpose of PPAs is essential for anyone involved in project development.

A dedicated lecture on Hybrid Architecture explains how Green Hydrogen projects can integrate multiple energy sources such as solar power, wind power, battery storage, and grid electricity to improve electrolyzer utilization and optimize project economics.

Finally, the course covers the role of the Offtaker in Green Hydrogen projects. Students will gain insight into why securing long-term customers is critical for project bankability and how offtake arrangements support project financing and revenue certainty.

By the end of this course, participants will have developed a strong understanding of the commercial building blocks that underpin Green Hydrogen projects and will be better prepared to engage in discussions surrounding hydrogen economics, project evaluation, and renewable energy integration.
