Fundamentals of Hydrogen Safety
Hydrogen Hazards and Consequences
Course Description:
In recent years, Hydrogen as a fuel is in much focus, because of its advantages as a fuel, which can replace the existing fossil fuels and also will help to meet the decarbonization and sustainability goals. This course will provide the basic information to understand and manage the Hydrogen hazards. Target audience for this course are students and professional dealing with Hydrogen. This course is divided into five modules with clear objectives for each of the module. In module one basic introduction to Hydrogen is covered. In Module two properties of Hydrogen relevant to safety are dealt with. Module three details some of the major Hydrogen accidents to understand the criticality of handling Hydrogen properly. Module deals with hazards and classification, including gaseous and liquid hazards. Finally in the module five, challenges and opportunities related to Hydrogen are dealt including the critical issues related to Codes and standards and lessons learned.
Hydrogen is a very good energy vector, which can help to overcome the issues related to storage and transport of energy. Green Hydrogen produced from Electrolysis process, with electricity requirement from Solar or Wind energy can revolutionize the energy industry. Hydrogen has the advantage of producing from different feed stocks and technologies. Even low grade feedstocks can be used for Hydrogen production.
